The
culture of female bachelors
or “ladettes” as they have become known is increasing across many
parts of the western world in recent years. Ladettes for the
uninitiated are women who shun the universally excepted normal
behavior for a lady, and instead drink alcohol to excess, and more
often than not end up in fights or passed out on the sidewalk.
This type of
behavior seems to have originated in Britain and came to prominence
during the height of Spice Girls craze, whose slogan of “girl
power” seemed to encourage women to copy the behavior of their male
counterparts. The fighting, drinking and anti-social behavior used to
be the preserve of the male of the species but has now become
entrenched in the mindset of thousands of females who equate getting
drunk to having a good time.
In certain
areas of Britain, the problem of ladettes has seen the local law
enforcement agencies start to crack down on the antics of drunken and
brawling females, with arrest rates amongst women getting higher and
higher.
Professional
sociologists are confused when it comes to understanding why women
are starting to follow in the drunken footsteps of their male
counterparts. It may come down to equality, the “if men can get
drunk and act up, then why can’t we?” attitude, or it may be that
they just want to be seen as one of the boys, whatever the reason the
sight of women lying in pools of their own vomit, a half empty beer
bottle at their side, is a common sight in British cities on a Friday
and Saturday night.
What
can be done to put an end to this kind of behavior? Well in a time
when health services are struggling to cope with the increase in
alcohol related disorders, educating children to the dangers of
drinking alcohol to excess needs to be implemented, otherwise these
kinds of problems are going to continue into the future if not get
worse. Apart from all of those issues they also give the rest of us
bachelor
girls a bad name!
