Are you thinking about getting your baby’s ears
pierced? A large number of parents are doing this every single day
however, a lot of people are asking whether it is such a good idea. In
Western countries it is seen as normal for a young girl to have their
ears pierced and it is quite rare to see a girl who has not had this
particular body modification.
Some
parents claim that by getting the babies ears pierced when they are
young that they are saving them from the pain in later life but I for
one was one of the people who decided against having my baby daughter’s
ears pierced. I am not against ear piercing myself but I just do not
think it is something that should be done at such a young age.
A
baby cannot speak up for itself and protest that they do not want it
done, something such as a body modification should be left to the
individual. Plus on the flip side they may grow up and have a preference
for not having it done, however if it has already been done the holes
do not always heal back to normal.
That
is one of the main reasons why I decided against having my baby
daughter’s ears pierced and as my eldest daughter is approaching her
eleventh birthday, she has given me no signs that she wishes to have her
ears pierced despite many of her friends already having it done.
However, if she wanted to speak to me one day in the future with a desire to get her ears pierced, I do not think that
I would stand in her way as she is now of an age that she can
understand the procedure and also look after the piercings herself.
